For the first time, three forms of automated driving will be permitted in Switzerland:
- Highway Pilot (SAE Level 3): On highways, vehicles with an approved system are allowed to take control of the steering wheel – however, manual intervention by the driver is always possible and required.
- Driverless Vehicles: Permitted on routes approved by the authorities – monitoring is carried out by an operator in a control center.
- Automated Parking: Allowed without a driver present in defined, signposted parking zones.
- The systems require type approval, and manufacturers must comprehensively prove their safety and functionality.
